With Deep Sorrow

At this very moment I'm lost for words but I have so much to say. My heart is heavy; deeply sadden. Troy Davis was murdered by the state of Georgia. Why? They didn't have any evidence, someone else confessed to the crime, witnesses have recanted statements and jurors have changed their minds. Yet, he was still put to death.

Why am I upset? A murder for a murder? What kind of since does it make? Absolutely NOTHING. That's what saddens me that. Our nation has no problem putting people to death without sufficient proof the crime was actually committed by that person.

I shed a tear for Troy Davis today every time I updated my news feed. To look at his face and see all the other men and women who have been convicted of crimes they have not committed. I know one of those faces personally. That could be why this is hitting me pretty hard.

The truth is anyone can be the next Troy Davis. At any given time we can be convicted of a crime that we never committed. That's what this story is about. It's not about black or white, it's not really even about Troy Davis. This is about justice or the lack there of.

Troy Davis died a hero in my book. He stood up for himself, he fought til the end for his innocence. In some cases the court system force folks to take deals, but not Troy Davis. It's my prayer that the fight doesn't end but that this case is the commencement. Let this be the beginning of a movement to expose how flawed our court system really is. Troy Davis speaks out in a letter "this is not a case about Troy Davis, this is a case about Justice and the Human Spirit to see Justice prevail...this Movement to end the death penalty, to seek true justice, to expose a system that fails to protect the innocent must be accelerated. There are so many more Troy Davis’. This fight to end the death penalty is not won or lost through me but through our strength to move forward and save every innocent person in captivity around the globe. We need to dismantle this Unjust system city by city, state by state and country by country."

He may have been a convicted murderer but Troy Davis died a free man tonight. May his name, love and lesson never be forgotten.
